Project Athena

At Scattershot, as the sole senior level designer and initially, one of the most senior members of the team besides the founding members, I was responsible for the entire level production pipeline from scratch. This included not only building several levels myself, catering to our varied multiplayer requirements (1v1 all the way up to 5v5 pvp gameplay) but also spearheading and managing our level design philosophy and
key pillars, future roadmap, best practices and creative and product alignment between all departments.

In this capacity, I was the lead for a small team of artists contributing towards not only establishing our overall art style and level art output, but also a key stakeholder manager, ensuring level design, art and gameplay successfully intertwined to deliver our desired player gameplay experience but also constantly validating and providing feedback on that goal through rigorous championing of playtesting and creative vision alignment.

Clarifying design goals, effectively communicating these towards other team members and streamlining our workflow and processes were key parts of my mandate, in addition to anticipating and solving production bottlenecks.

On a day to day capacity, I also worked on:

– Initial map research, implementation and gameplay passes
– Validated initial assumptions through numerous playtests
– Corrected map where these fell short
– Helped drive alignment towards our desired art style by canvassing key stakeholders
– Established all relevant documentation – including high level pitches, briefs and GDDs
– Ensured alignment among key stakeholders
– Clarified design goals; championed player experience & playtesting
– Facilitated transparent and effective communication between departments
– Ensured every team member was supported and aided when required
– Pivoted towards game design and other relevant disciplines when the situation required it
